Community Schools Virtual Panel Event - November 8

The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future marshals the Community School strategy to “promote student achievement, positive learning outcomes, and the well-being of students.” Although as a state-level initiative this approach is relatively new, Community Schools in Baltimore city have existed for nearly 20 years.  As the Community School strategy expands across Maryland, we are encouraged that deep experiential knowledge and research already exists that can help ensure its success.

This event will take place Tuesday, November 8 from 12:30 - 2:00pm EST.  Co-hosted by Loyola University Maryland’s Center for Equity, Leadership, and Social Justice and the Baltimore Education Research Consortium (BERC), a live webinar will feature a panel conversation to learn what a strong community school strategy looks like, what evidence exists about the strategy’s efficacy, and to hear about what community school leaders wrestle with and how researchers and practitioners can collaborate. Our panelists include both community school researchers and practitioners as we welcome:

  • Mr. Aneuri Castro, Community School Coordinator, Wolfe Street Academy
  • Mr. Mark Gaither, Principal, Wolfe Street Academy
  • Dr. Claudia Galindo, University of Maryland – College Park
  • Dr. Mavis Sanders, Child Trends
  • Dr. Jessica Shiller, Towson University
  • Moderator: Dr. Stephanie Flores-Koulish
