Loyola University Maryland’s School of Education offers free webinars for educators, school professionals, and community members that feature engaging and relevant topics ranging from tools and resources for educators to social justice issues facing our students, schools, and community. Transforming Schools with Internships

Interns in schools don’t just learn skills for their future jobs; they synthesize their current and developing knowledge to support school communities, sometimes transforming those school communities. In this webinar, you will learn about some of the amazing ways that Loyola student interns in our teaching, educational leadership, and educational technology programs have connected with students and teachers and make a difference in their communities.

Our panelists of current and former interns will share specific steps they took in their schools to make a difference, how they responded to COVID and other challenges, and tips for how you can learn to help make change in your current or future school as an intern, teacher, or leader.

Janna Gifford

M.Ed. in Educational Leadership Intern

Janna Gifford graduated from Stevenson University with her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She is dual certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and has been teaching English Language Arts in Baltimore City Public Schools for seven years to children ranging from Pre-K to 6th Grade. Janna currently teaches 5th and 6th Grade English Language Arts at Tench Tilghman Elementary/Middle School and is pursuing her Master's degree in Educational Leadership at Loyola University Maryland.

Gabi Salas

M.Ed. in Educational Leadership Intern

Gabi Salas has worked at Lakeland Elementary School, a Baltimore City Public School, for nine years. She co-founded the Dual Language program in 2016 and currently serves as her school's dual language coach. She has a strong passion for dual language education and promoting bilingualism. Gabi is pursuing her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Loyola University Maryland.

Mia Ferri

Undergraduate Teacher Education Intern

Mia Ferri is a current senior at Loyola University Maryland from Princeton, NJ, and is majoring in elementary education with a special education minor. She is completing her full-time internship at Solley Elementary School in second grade and loves creating fun and engaging ways to help her students succeed.

Abby Ross

Undergraduate Teacher Education Intern

Abby Ross is a current a senior at Loyola University Maryland from Philadelphia, PA, and is majoring in elementary education with a minor in special education. She has served as a student intern at Solley Elementary School since September 2021 and is teaching 2nd Grade.

Rebecca Stephen

M.Ed. in Educational Technology Intern

Rebecca Stephen is in her eighth year of teaching and currently works as a 5th grade teacher and instructional team leader in Howard County, MD. Rebecca recently earned her Master’s in Educational Technology at Loyola University Maryland. Because of her work through the Loyola graduate program, Rebecca has become a technology leader in her school and was named the PBIS chair. She is currently working to implement restorative justice practices in her school.
