All students must take three non-departmental electives. Non-departmental electives are courses taken outside of the major department and outside of the core.

All majors, except Engineering, allow for a series of free electives that can be taken in any department. Free electives enable students to study subjects just for the joy of doing so and also provide an opportunity for students to try something new. The number of free electives available to students varies across majors.

Many students use electives to satisfy the requirements for a minor.
