Dr. Armina Kazi receives $2M grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF)

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded Loyola University Maryland a 6-year, $2.0 million Scholarship in Science, Technology, Engineering, and  Mathematics (S-STEM) grant to establish the “Empowering STEM Scholars for Success” (Empowered Scholars) program, which aims to help academically talented, low-income students majoring in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, and forensic science join the US labor force in these in-demand STEM areas. The Empowered Scholars program will support two separate cohorts of 12 students each over a five-to six-year period. It will be a cohesive, multifaceted program that draws upon Loyola’s strong sense of community, its robust academic support system, and its career development initiatives and connections with leading industry partners.

Dr. Armina Kazi pulled together a team of faculty to implement this award from Engineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Arts and Education. This is an impressive example of a collaborative effort to promote scholarship in Loyola.
