Position & Description

The Graduate Assistants (GAs) for ALANA Services are expected to assist in the development and implementation of multicultural and diversity initiatives for ALANA Services and the Division of Student Development.

Graduate assistants employed by ALANA Services will enhance competencies in one or more of the following areas:

1. Student Learning and Development
2. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
3. Advising and Helping
4. Teamwork and Collaboration
5. Assessment, Evaluation and Research
6. Professional Development and Work Ethics

Hours & Wages

  1. The position is part-time, 20 hours/week, starting the first week of August and ending the third week of May that totals to 600 hours between the Fall & Spring semesters.
  2. Compensation will total to $13,500; Tuition Amount $6,750 & Stipend Amount $6,750.
  3. The GAs will be permitted to procure additional employment with the approval of the Supervisor.

Qualification

  • Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Loyola University Maryland
  • Strong organizational skills & attention to details
  • Willingness to work & mentor undergraduate students

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison to Spectrum, an all-inclusive student group for LGBTQ students and their allies, and to University offices, departments, and other student groups
  • Act as an advocate and support for LGBTQIA+ and ALANA students
  • Assist with the outreach to ALANA students regarding academic progress and provide academic intervention and support as necessary through intentional conversations and meetings
  • Provide resources and support for students with questions related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and other identities and refer students to other University offices when appropriate
  • Research best practices and trends as it relates to supporting LGBTQIA+ and ALANA students
  • Facilitate focus groups and opportunities for students to come together through an intersectional lens that focuses on both their ALANA and LGBTQIA+ identities
  • Coordinate campus-wide cultural and/or identity-based programming, working with designated ALANA organization(s) on programming
    • Meet with the president of these ALANA organization(s) as necessary
    • Meet with the Executive Board(s) (E-Board) as necessary
    • Meet with the E-Board in advance of their heritage celebration time period
    • Ensure completion of program evaluations
  • Work with the other ALANA Graduate Assistants to coordinate & execute programs such as International Festival, “A Night of Stars”, and the ALANA Block Party.
  • Actively participate in the execution of the Multicultural Awareness Program (pre-orientation program) e.g., interviewing prospective Navigators, providing feedback about the program, being present during the entire program including the Navigator Training
  • Participate in weekly ALANA staff meetings and supervision meetings
  • Partner with the other ALANA Graduate Assistants on marketing communications
  • Maintain records/files in an organized manner
  • Attend and assist with ALANA sponsored events, including those on nights and weekends
  • Chaperone on-campus ALANA Orgs weekend parties and events as needed
  • Assist with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
  • Assist with creation of publicity and promotion of materials
  • Other duties as assigned

  3. Demonstrate a commitment to the education of Loyola students on issues of multiculturalism and
    awareness
  4. Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with their supervisor
  5. Available for night and weekend activities
  6. Maintain office hours
  7. Serve as a positive role model and advocate for ALANA students and LGBTQIA+ students
