First-Year Move-In Schedule

Welcome Home!

The Office of Student Life will continue with a centralized, systematic move-in designed to reduce congestion, promote social distancing, and expedite arrival for students and their families. All residential students will move in during their specified appointment selected in the RoomRez portal.

First- Year Check-In

New Incoming First- Year Loyola University Maryland residents may select a move-in appointment for one of the following days:
  • Wednesday, September 1
  • Thursday, September 2

Any student approved to move in early for a University commitment that requires them to be on campus will receive additional information about their move-in from the Office of Student Life and their group coordinator.

After students' belongings have been unloaded, all vehicles will be directed to park at the Fitness and Aquatics Center (FAC) or Cathedral Parking Areas. Both parking area are located on Charles Street, North of Loyola University. A shuttle will be available to bring you back to campus.

The Fitness and Aquatic Center is located on North Charles Street approximately 1/3 mile north of the main campus. To reach the Fitness and Aquatic Center from I-695, proceed to exit 25 (Charles Street) and go south on Charles Street approximately 4.5 miles. You will see a large Loyola sign, then the building. Turn right at the next light into the Fitness and Aquatic Center driveway and follow the event parking signs.

Things to Do Before Move-In

Summer Arrangements

  • Make travel plans, print maps and directions, and make hotel reservations, if needed.
  • Verify that all of your personal belongings are insured either through a renters or homeowners’ insurance policy.
  • Review and pay your bill prior to coming to campus.
  • Consider renting or purchasing new or used books through the Loyola University Bookstore.

Room Assignment/Roommates

  • Retrieve your room assignment and roommate information via your Loyola email in early August.
  • Start building a relationship with your roommates prior to arrival. Talk about expectations of living together.
  • Contact your roommates and decide what each of you is bringing to the room. Note that there is only one cable television connection per bedroom. For every person in a room, there is a bed, dresser, desk, and chair.
  • Identify your check-in location by your approved arrival date attached to your assignment email.

Packing and Shipping

  • Plan what to bring to college.
  • Keep in mind that there are some items prohibited in the halls. These items will be confiscated if found during room inspections.
  • Label boxes with your name and Building/Room Number/Bedroom (For example, Campion 610, Bedroom A).
  • If you need to mail any items, they should be sent to your mail stop. You can find your mail stop number on WebAdvisor.

Things to Do On Move-In Day

  • Know how to arrive to the FAC and have your check-in placard available.
  • Once you are directed to your residence park in a designated space to unload your belongings curb-side. 
  • Once belongings are unloaded, move your vehicle to a permanent parking space, campus police can help you identify the closest place to park.
  • Our volunteers will be available to assist all first year students with move-in and will be directing traffic and providing information throughout campus on the main move-in days. Volunteer assistance is available at no cost to you. There will also be large bins with wheels that you may check out to use, however the person using the bin will be asked to sign it out and leave a driver’s license until the bin is returned. Please be aware that there are a limited number of bins, and there may be a wait time to obtain one.
  • Review the Room Condition Report (RCR) available in the RoomRez portal when they check in. Report any repair issues to Facilities Management.
  • Break down your moving boxes and bring them to designated recycling areas or take them home for reuse, take out all trash to designated dumpsters.

Things to Do After Move-In Day

  • Check the orientation schedule, attend all events, and get to know your fellow Greyhounds!
  • Attend floor and hall meetings and take advantage of residential programs designed for you by the resident assistant on your floor.
  • Report any room repair issues to the Service Request Site throughout the year.
  • Visit the First Year FAQs page to aid in your transition and to learn more about life at Loyola. 

Final Reminders for a Successful Move-In

  • Label all packages and bags with your name, hall, and room number.
  • Know where you're going and how to get there by printing directions and maps before leaving home.
  • Bring a hand truck if you have one.
  • Never leave belongings unattended.
  • Make move-in a team effort— Loyola staff and volunteers are available to assist you.
  • Don’t forget your patience!
  • Plan for the weather.
  • Remember that common items are conveniently available at retail stores nearby.

Move-Into Loyola University RoomRez Webpage

Starting in August, residents will have access to their individual move-in webpage within the RoomRez portal. Here you will find information specific to you to assist with move-in

Check-in Pass

To provide a limited contact check-in, we will be using QR codes to check students into housing instead of swiping your Loyola ID in a card reader. You will need to either print out the QR code or use the Check-in Pass QR image in the corner of your move-in webpage.

Check-in Appointment

As a reminder, you can find your selected check-in appointment listed here. Your check-in appointment time is when you should arrive at the Fitness and Aquatic Center (FAC). Once checked in at the FAC, you will receive directions to your residence hall, where you will have one (1) hour to unload your vehicle.

Account Holds

All students must complete all move-in requirements before receiving their key. If you have any account holds that would prevent you from check-in in, they will show in a yellow alert box. If there are no holds listed, you are clear to check-in and receive your key. Please continue to monitor these holds as you prepare to move-in.

Move-in Placard

All students are required to download and print their move-in placard before arriving to campus. Move-in placards must be visible on your vehicle's dashboard while on campus during move-in. Student Life and Public Safety will be looking for this placard as you enter the FAC and again once you arrive at your residence hall
