Minor in Early Childhood Education

The School of Education offers a minor in early childhood education that provides students with foundational theories as well as practical strategies for teaching and collaborating in schools, childcare, and community settings. The minor is aligned with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Program of Study

Required (20 credits) 

  • ED 112 Foundations in Early Childhood Education  
  • ED 212 Collaboration and Cooperation in Early Childhood Education Communities 
  • ED 312 Play and Creativity in Early Childhood Education  
  • ED 412 Integrating Academic Content in Early Childhood Education  
  • RE 220* Early Literacy Instruction and Assessment 
  • SE 296/ED 438* Introduction to Special Education with field 

*included in the elementary education major 

Declaring a Minor 

Undergraduate students interested in pursuing the minor must schedule an appointment to meet with the early childhood education minor advisor before declaring the minor. 

Students who wish to add, change, or drop a minor must submit a Change of Minor form to the Office of the Registrar (MH 141). Be sure to get all the signatures required prior to submitting this form. The Change of Minor form is available on the Office of the Registrar website under forms, or in the Office of the Registrar (MH 141).
