Loyola's Sellinger School of Business programs named among best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report

Loyola University Maryland’s Sellinger School of Business and Management was ranked No. 125 among the best undergraduate business programs in the country by the U.S. News & World Report's “Best Colleges” guide for 2022. The Sellinger School has offered a nationally-ranked business education for several years.

“These rankings distinguish the Sellinger School’s prominence as a nationally recognized leader in business education and scholarship. I am most proud of the rightful recognition given to our hard-working students and dedicated faculty,” said Bobby Waldrop, interim dean of the Sellinger School.

In addition, the Marketing, Management, and Accounting programs within the Sellinger School received national rankings: 

  • No. 28 (tied) for “Marketing in Undergraduate Business Programs”
  • No. 33 (tied) for “Management in Undergraduate Business Programs”
  • No. 57 (tied) for “Accounting in Undergraduate Business Programs”

“This news is great but not surprising,” said Jason Zhang, Ph.D., department chair and professor of marketing. “Our program is carefully designed for an outstanding student experience. In addition to offering cutting-edge courses, the marketing program stresses an experiential and hands-on approach to teaching.” When explaining what sets the Sellinger marketing program apart, Dr. Zhang said that “Our professors use high-impact-practices (HIPs) (e.g., projects, learning communities, study tours, and simulation games) to teach and engage the students. A few of our classes also aim to train our students to earn professional certifications in the areas of digital marketing and marketing management.”

“We are thrilled to see that our management majors are ranked No. 33,” said Irem Demirkan, Ph.D., department chair and associate professor of Management. According to Dr. Demirkan, “Reputation of department members is an important part of this ranking and we have faculty that are prominent scholars in their fields, exceptional teachers, and dedicated mentors.” When it comes to real-world relevance, our faculty are “being responsive to the changing business landscape by better preparing our students to meet the needs of today’s organizations. We are truly happy with this result, it is a significant recognition of what we do everyday.” 

JP Krahel, Ph.D., chair of the accounting department took to LinkedIn to express his elation for the No. 57 ranking: “I can't begin to express how proud I am that Loyola's undergraduate accounting program is ranked 57th nationally by US News & World Report. This is a testament to the quality of our faculty, the support of our institution, and above all, the consistent motivation and success of our graduates.”

To establish its rankings, U.S. News analyzed 1,466 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutions on 17 measures of academic quality, including retention and graduation rates, class sizes, student/faculty ratios, and average federal loan debt of graduates. The indicators were assigned a weight or grade based on U.S. News’ criteria.
