Dr. Roger J. Kashlak
Professor Emeritus of Management and Organizations
Roger J. Kashlak is Professor of International Business at the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola University Maryland. He has been with Loyola since 1993. During the past ten years, he has also served as Department Chair and Senior Associate Dean of the Business School, chaired the university's NCAA Cycle 3 Recertification, and was a member of the university's Executive Governance and Budget Committees. He received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA in International Business from Temple University and a Ph.D. in International Business and Strategy from Temple University.
Dr. Kashlak was a member of the International Business Department at the University of Auckland (2000-2002) and subsequently served as Visiting Professor of International Business there. He has been a Research Fellow at the Voinovich Center for Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University and has been an invited lecturer and developed courses and seminars at institutions including: Thunderbird (The American Graduate School of International Management); Temple University-Japan; Manipal University (India); Katholiek University Leuven (Belgium); Institut Technologi Mara (Malaysia); and, Universidad Jesuita Alberto Hurtado (Chile).
Dr. Kashlak's research has focused on topics such as international reciprocity, international alliances, global expansion in telecom, health care and other industries, global control and corporate governance issues, executive education pedagogies, and comparative analyses of leadership and work attitudes. His research has been published in leading journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Management International Review, Journal of Business Research, Long Range Planning and Journal of International Management, and presented at over 60 national and international conferences since 1993. He is a co-author of the book, International Management: Managing in a Diverse and Dynamic Global Environment, published in 2005 by McGraw-Hill, with Chinese editions published through 2011. The American 2nd edition was published in 2009, and the international edition in 2010. The text has been used by universities in 22 countries. He has also served on various editorial boards and as a reviewer for international business and strategic management journals.
Dr. Kashlak's teaching focuses on International Management and Global Strategy at undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA levels. He has developed and conducted Executive MBA courses throughout the world including, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, South Africa, Chile, Argentina, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. He is the recipient of Loyola's 1997 Distinguished Teacher Award and other teaching honors from Beta Gamma Sigma, The Sellinger School and Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society.
Prior to academia, Dr. Kashlak worked for AT&T-Communications International, where he developed the initial international rate negotiation strategy and was responsible for financial negotiations with host governments and telecom entities throughout the world. Subsequent to that job, he established AT&T-Communication's Italian subsidiary. Dr. Kashlak has continued to be involved in the corporate world through executive education with firms such as AEGON, AT&T, Ericsson, Northrop-Grumman, Lucent Technologies, Motorola, and various sub-Saharan African public and private entities.
Dr. Kashlak sees his most important role as focusing on the next generation, including his children and his students, and the most recent edition of his textbook is dedicated to "the next generation of scholars." He is the father of two sons: Adam, who has degrees from McGill University and Johns Hopkins University and who is currently pursuing a Ph.D.in Mathematics at Cambridge University, and Jake, who graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2012, and just recently completed his Masters of Philosophy In Theater and Analysis at Trinity College Dublin.
