LGBTQIA+ Student Services —

As a brand-new department at Loyola University Maryland, LGBTQIA+ Student Services looks to inspire and support student learning and engagement in co-curricular leadership opportunities. The department serves as a support to LGBTQIA+ students, guiding them as they navigate campus while connecting students with available resources on and off campus. The team acts as a resource and represents student needs through education and collaboration across the university.

Position

LGBTQIA+ Student Services Graduate Assistant

LGBTQIA+ Student Services is seeking an inaugural graduate assistant who is deeply passionate and experienced in supporting the needs of LGBTQIA+ students in an intersectional and developmentally informed approach. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable professional experience while developing meaningful relationships with students across the university. The graduate assistant reports directly to the director of LGBTQIA+ Student Services. 

Hours & Wages

This graduate assistantship is for the 2024-2025 academic year, starting in August 2024 and ending in May 2025.

Hours: This role will work up to 337.5 hours per semester, approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Wages: $20.00 per hour

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a graduate student at Loyola University Maryland
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in supporting members of the LGBTQPIA+ community
  • Desire to work with and mentor undergraduate students in a manner that is both relational and professional 
  • Ability to articulate intersectionality as it relates to the LGBTQIA+ community and their lived experiences 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Must be available to work in-person and support student and departmental programming, including some evening and weekend responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Support student leadership development trainings and mentorship
  • Provide programming support for departmental and student organization (Spectrum and The LGBTQ+ Experience) events, including but not limited to, Transgender Day of Remembrance, National Coming Out Day, Rainbow Ball, Sexuality & Gender Diversity Awareness Week, Ignatian Q conference, and on-campus drag show
  • Attend and provide support at tabling events throughout the academic year: Fall Welcome Weekend, Student Activities Fair, Open House Resource Fairs, etc.
  • Research best practices and trends as it relates to supporting LGBTQIA+ students with a focus on intersectional and developmentally informed approaches
  • Support logistics and maintenance of Loyola’s Queer Little Library and other resources in the Pride Resource Room
  • Collect, organize, and assess programmatic and student support data as it relates to the efforts of the department and corresponding student organizations
  • Create and maintain social media accounts for LGBTQIA+ Student Services
  • Update and maintain departmental website and student engagement platform (The Bridge)
  • Coordinate and draft departmental newsletter
  • Provide general departmental administrative support as well as additional responsibilities as offered or assigned 

 Expectations

  • Conduct themselves with professionalism during all interactions with students and employees of Loyola University Maryland and members of the local community
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
  • Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with their supervisor
  • Available for night and weekend activities
  • Maintain office hours to support staff availability for students
  • Serve as a positive role model and advocate for LGBTQIA+ students and their intersecting identities
