Each year, the office of academic affairs sponsors a celebration to gather faculty and recognize the scope of faculty excellence at Loyola in teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and engaged scholarship. This year's Faculty Excellence Celebration will be included in Loyola's Maryland Day Events.
Faculty Excellence Awards
The Faculty Award for Excellence in Digital Teaching Practice recognizes a colleague for their innovative use of technology for teaching and learning.
Eligibility: Any current full-time faculty member
2023 Awardee - Janine Holc, Ph.D. (Political Science)
The Faculty Award for Excellence in Engaged Scholarship recognizes and celebrates a faculty member's extraordinary contributions to Loyola's Students, community partners, and institutional mission through sustained involvement and excellence in one or more types of engaged scholarship (including service-learning).
Eligibility: Any current full-time faculty member.
2023 Awardee - Masudul Biswas, Ph.D. (Communication)
The Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching recognizes a colleague for their commitment to outstanding teaching in Loyola's graduate programs.
Eligibility: Any current full-time faculty member.
2023 Awardee - Irene Bal (Education Specialties)
The Faculty Award for Excellence in Mentoring honors one faculty member who has had a profound impact on the life, career, or direction of students at Loyola.
Eligibility: Any current full-time faculty member.
2023 Awardee - SFC Gene Zhang (Military Science)
The Faculty Award for Excellence in Transformative Teaching recognizes a colleague for achievement in an imaginative teaching practice. This might take the form of a curricular revision, a course redesign, an inventive tradition, a new teaching format, an exemplary project, a new immersive experience, or any number of ways a colleague transforms the learning experience.
Eligibility: Any current full-time faculty member.
2023 Awardee - Timothy Clark, Ph.D. (Mathematics and Statistics)
The Distinguished Scholar of the Year Award honors a faculty member for outstanding achievement in the area of research and creative activity.
Eligibility: Any tenured faculty member.
2023 Awardee - Amy Becker, Ph.D. (Communication)
The Harry W. Rodgers III Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award was founded in 1971 to give public recognition to full-time faculty members whose teaching activities demonstrate a high degree of professional excellence.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students nominate faculty for the award.
