Biography

Dr. Gina Massella is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She began my career as an elementary school teacher. After receiving a masters’ degree in Human Development and Psychology at University of Maryland, College Park, she taught middle school and high school for seventeen years in Maryland public schools. Dr. Massella has worked in Baltimore County, Carroll County, and Howard County.

Dr. Massella's most notable positions include serving as the Department Chair of Social Studies in Baltimore County, Administrative Director of High Schools for Howard County, and Director of Share Accountability for Howard County Public Schools. In 2004, she served eleven years as Principal of Howard High School. Under her administration, Howard High School was transformed from a designated “school improvement unit (SIU school) to one of the top performing high school in Howard County Public School System.

She has presented at the Maryland Council for Social Studies and National Council for the Social Studies, and the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals on various curriculum and supervision topics. Dr. Massella currently serves on the Executive Board of the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP).

Dr. Massella joined Loyola University Maryland as a full time lecturer in the fall 2018. She has a one daughter, Meaghan, who is an acupuncturist. She loves cats, traveling, and cooking.
