Dr. Pethigamage Lami Perera is a transdisciplinary academic with expertise in both information systems and social science and has worked at universities across three continents. His research spans Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, information behaviors and practices (local and global), information security, and social media, strengthening his reputation as a socio-technical and interdisciplinary researcher.

He is the creator of several influential ideas, including the ‘Global Review’ and ‘Negative Citation’ models for academic publishing. He also helped develop a blockchain-based process model for detecting superannuation (retirement fund) fraud in Australia. Dr. Perera has made notable contributions to understanding “site” and sense of place within information practice research. His concept of ‘Karmic Capital’ introduced a new research field known as cultural information science, placing him at the forefront of non-Western information practice studies.

He has supported the Australian Parliament in inquiries related to Artificial Intelligence in education, and his AI work continues to expand into new and underexplored directions. His research on social media use has also been recognized within the library and information science field. Dr. Pethigamage Lami Perera is a global scholar, educator, and innovator who welcomes research that builds knowledge.
