"It’s hard to sum up 44 years at Loyola, four as a student-athlete and 40 as a member of the athletic department, in just a few sentences. The beautiful campus, the academics and the ability to compete athletically may have drawn me here, but it is the people and the community that gave me reasons to stay. I was fortunate to have mentors, especially Joe Boylan (former athletic director) and Anne McCloskey (former coach), who helped me navigate both work life and adult life, and colleagues like Diane Geppi-Aikens who inspired me along the way. They showed me what it truly means to be a person for others, and I hope I have been able to do the same for the student-athletes and colleagues who came after me. Joe used to say, “Have a grand and glorious day,” and while I may not achieve that every day, when everything does come together, I am reminded how fortunate I am to have spent all these years doing work I care about with people I have learned from, laughed with, and been inspired by."

"Determine your strengths and skills, and your passions. Hone your strengths and use them to fully engage and advance your passions over the arc of your career. For me, it began with engaging and mentoring students in field research in animal behavior, then tenure, additional course offerings and departmental leadership, and then finally modeling, budgeting and governance (yes, a truly weird mix) for academic affairs and the university. Stay true through the changes and numerous opportunities that arise, sometimes fortuitously, and fulfilment and joy will occur."

"Marking my 40th academic year at Loyola University Maryland, I still find unmatched thrill and energy in the arrival of every fall semester. The true core of my career is the deep interaction with my students inside and outside the classroom, which constantly inspires my research and gives a profound purpose to my daily teaching. Globally, I brought a broader perspective to our campus by founding the flagship Bangkok study abroad program over 35 years ago and leading our Prague summer study abroad program for the past decade. On campus, I proudly advise the 150 members of the Greyhound Realty Club and developed a student-led Relay for Life project that raises over $30,000 each fall for the American Cancer Society. Beyond these roles, I have dedicated years to shaping vital university-wide systems—including our first grievance, family medical leave, compensation, and diversity policies—to support every single employee in our community. I am sure the next 10 years will be equally rewarding and exciting."

"I've been thinking about my career highlights over the last almost 42 years and a few things have come to mind. I stated working part time for Theology and the Business School, then Philosophy and now both Theology and Philosophy. My job has evolved over the years from using typewriters, electric typewriters and now computers.  We had landlines and then voicemail and now Teams. I am always learning new skills and growing with the university while maintaining relationships with the faculty and students.  I have assisted with the Center from the Humanities since it started as well as the Peace and Justice program.  Through the years I also worked with the Pre-health committee. I am honored to be asked to serve in many ways as new programs are created. The most rewarding aspect of the job is assisting the faculty and students on a daily basis.  I believe in the Jesuit Catholic mission and values and have been blessed for almost 42 years to work in a place where I hope I am making a difference in the lives of others."
