Admissions
What is the average GPA of applicants?
At Loyola, we look at an applicant’s whole admission application, and GPA is only one factor. We require an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 for unconditional admission to our program. Applicants under the 3.0 threshold may be considered for probational admission.
Program
Can I work while I am a candidate in the program?
Yes, this program is designed to accommodate teachers. We currently offer online asynchronous classes and evening online synchronous classes.
When are classes offered?
The majority of our class offerings are 8-week sessions that meet one night per week from 4:45-8:45 p.m. or 5:00-8:45 p.m.
We offer a limited number of traditional 15-week classes that meet one night per week, 4:30-7:00 p.m. (or two nights per week in the summer) or 7:05-9:35 p.m.
The internship seminar classes typically meet online on Saturdays throughout the semester.
Do you offer any fully online classes?
The majority of our classes are offered online.
How many credits will I need to complete the program?
The Certification in Administration and Supervision program is 18 credits, which includes 6 credits of internship. Please find a full listing of the required coursework, course descriptions, and program descriptions in the online academic catalogue.
How long is the program?
Full-time candidates of the Flexible Pathway can complete the program in as little as 2 years. Candidates of the Accelerated Pathway can complete the program in 10 months.
Internship
Can I work during the internship?
Yes, the internship is completed at your current school setting/role, allowing you to continue working.
Licensure
How do I obtain licensure?
All the programs in Educational Leadership lead to licensure eligibility for Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, and Principal (formerly Administrator I and Administrator II) in Maryland.
Once you complete the Post-Master's Certificate in Administration and Supervision (including the 6-credits of internship) at Loyola University Maryland, you will receive a stamp on your transcript indicating you are eligible for licensure. You will need to apply for licensure with MSDE and provide your stamped transcript.
