When you major in finance in Loyola’s Sellinger School of Business and Management, you’ll gain critical skills in a vital area of business. Through an immersive curriculum taught by dedicated expert faculty, our program can provide a clear Path to Wall Street or serve as a launch pad for successful a career in all areas of business. Our AACSB-accredited finance education emphasizes the mastery and application of industry tools coupled with an awareness of global influences—helping students develop skills to effectively solve problems, provide analysis, communicate effectively and with confidence, and approach their roles with a deep understanding of ethics and social responsibility.

Apply what you learn in the classroom to internships. Gain hands-on experience in asset valuation, allocation and selection, risk management, and performance evaluation through the student-managed Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund. You’ll also gain access to the Sellinger Experiential Learning Laboratory (SELL)—an innovative trading room where students use hardware, software, and data platforms like Bloomberg, Capital IQ, and Morningstar to engage in faculty-directed research relevant to local, national, and global businesses and communities.

A minor in finance is available for students in all majors.

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Exam Scholarship

Loyola students can now receive scholarships to partially cover the costs of the CFA exams because Loyola B.S. Finance curriculum embeds over 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge. This is very timely since the CFA Institute has recently changed its policy to allow undergraduate students to take the CFA Levels I and II exams.

Junior Financial Analyst

For students on the Path to Wall Street, this is your introduction to the tools and best practices needed to be a financial analyst. Develop skills in financial modeling, stock valuation, database use, report preparation, and research presentation. Learn more about the Junior Financial Analyst course.

Student Managed Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund

FI 434

Exposes students to the portfolio management process through experiential learning. Students serve as portfolio and investment managers charged with managing the Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund and gain experience with databases used by finance professionals.

Internship

FI 499

Hone your skills in the real world with an internship that provides a meaningful finance experience and earns you credits towards your degree. Students work 10-20 hours per week and reflect on their experience through class presentations.
